The city of Lewistown was founded in the 1880s and grew rapidly during the early 1900s.  Many of the large sandstone and brick commercial buildings and stately Victorian, Georgian, Arts & Crafts and Roman Revival homes from that period give the city a charming character not found in many of the cities in Eastern and Central Montana.  Most of these gracious period homes located in Lewistown's "Silk Stocking District" are within easy walking distance of downtown businesses and shopping.
